Fern Britton admits marriage to Phil Vickery crumbled as they ‘fell apart’
Fern Britton has revealed she lost her house when she split from TV chef Phil Vickery after their marriage collapsed in January last year.
The 64-year-old TV legend was married to 60-year-old Phil for 20 years – but the couple announced they were separating 18 months ago.
Both Fern and Phil – who share a daughter together – revealed they ‘will always share a great friendship’ when they split, but Fern left cryptic messages on Twitter in the days following the announcement, sparking speculation about the reason behind their split.
Now Fern has revealed she has lost her family home due to the collapse of her marriage – and is now living in Cornwall.
Discussing a string of bad luck in recent years, Fern shared with Good Housekeeping: “I’m not afraid of change…The last three years have been very hard. I lost my parents, I lost my marriage.
“I lost my other home in Buckinghamshire, too, because Phil lives there now and I’m in Cornwall.”
Fern went on to say she is enjoying her new life in the West Country, saying: “the magic I’ve found here is incredible. I’ve made some wonderful girlfriends, that’s been a lovely surprise.”
Announcing her split from Phil back in January 2020, Fern wrote on Twitter: “After more than 20 happy years together, Phil and I have decided to go our separate ways.
“We will always share a great friendship and our lovely children . We would appreciate it if our privacy is respected at this time. Thankyou for your continued kindness and support.”
However, just a few months later, Fern sparked speculation about the collapse of her marriage when she shared a quote about “betrayal” on Twitter.
The quote stated: “In life, you will fall out with people that you never thought you would.
“Get betrayed by people you trusted with all of your heart. Get used by people you would do anything for. But life also has a beautiful side to it.
“You will get loved by someone you never thought you would have. Form new friendships with people that will establish more meaningful and stronger relationships. And overcome things you never thought you would get over.
“We all have chapters that end with people at some point in life. But take pride in knowing that the very best part of your book is still being written.”
Re-tweeting the statement, Fern added a note herself, writing: “Whoever wrote this KNOWS” and later adding: “This fits so perfectly”.
Fern and Phil met on the set of iconic cookery show Ready, Steady, Cook and married in 2000.
They welcomed a daughter named Winnie in August 2001.
Former This Morning star Fern has twin sons Jack and Harry who were born in 1994 and a daughter named Grace, born in 1997, from her previous marriage to TV executive Clive Jones which lasted from 1988 until 2000.
